Towards a monolithic multiphase flow solver via surface stress-based formulations

چکیده
In this note we discuss the combination of the classical CSS and CSF approaches with special FEM techniques towards a fully implicit distance-free level set method. Based on a new surface stress formulation, neither normals nor curvature have to be explicitly calculated, and also the explicit redistancing can be avoided so that a monolithic formulation of the corresponding multiphase problem gets feasible. Prototypical numerical tests of benchmarking character for a rising 2D bubble are provided for validating the accuracy of this new approach.

A preconditioned solver for sharp resolution of multiphase flows at all Mach numbers
A preconditioned five-equation two-phase model coupled with an interface sharpening technique is introduced for simulation of a wide range of multiphase flows with both high and low Mach regimes. Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) Riemann solver is implemented for solving the discretized equations while tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) interface sharpening method is applied ...
متن کاملAdaptive anisotropic meshing and implicit boundary for general multiphase computation
Complex geometries can be embedded in a mesh by using an implicit boundary representation as in the level set method or any equivalent scalar field. Such approaches enable a much more flexible way for building complex multi-domain simulations than classical body-fitted techniques that required to constraint boundaries and interfaces into the volume mesh. However, the geometrical accuracy of imp...
متن کاملA Five-Parameter Yield Surface
This paper is on the elasto-plastic analysis of plane stress problems. A five-parameter yield surface is presented. This yield criterion uses associate flow along with mixed hardening rule. The analytical formulations are written and related computer program for non-linear analysis is prepared. Finally, based on the formulations, numerical examples are solved.

متن کاملTime - Dependent Simulation of Cavitating Flow with k − ` Turbulence Models
A compressible, multiphase, one-fluid RANS solver has been developed to study turbulent cavitating flows. The interplay between turbulence and cavitation regarding the unsteadiness and structure of the flow is complex and not well understood. This constitutes a critical point to accurately simulate the dynamic behaviour of sheet cavities. In the present study, different formulations based on a ...
